What must a MiFID II suitability report contain, and how do you trace it?
Updated on
A MiFID II suitability report summarises the advice given and explains why the recommendation suits the retail client: investment objectives, required investment horizon, knowledge, experience, attitude to risk, capacity for loss and sustainability preferences (article 54(12) of Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/565).
The safest way to trace these points is to start from the meeting itself: Meetingize records it, transcribes it by speaker and structures the report with the wealth manager persona, which you review and seal.
The elements, one by one
| Element | What the meeting should show |
|---|---|
| Investment objectives | What the client wants to achieve, in their words |
| Investment horizon | The required holding period |
| Knowledge and experience | What the client knows and has invested in before |
| Attitude to risk | Stated tolerance and reactions to scenarios discussed |
| Capacity for loss | Acceptable losses given their situation |
| Sustainability preferences | Added by Delegated Regulation (EU) 2021/1253, applicable since 2 August 2022 |
| Summary and justification | The advice given and why it suits the client |
| Periodic review | Whether the recommendation may require a periodic review |
Tracing each element from the meeting
- Get the client's consent, then record the meeting (iOS app, up to 3 hours on Standard and Pro) or upload the audio.
- The transcript attributes every utterance: the client's answers on objectives, horizon or risk tolerance are easy to find.
- The wealth manager persona structures the suitability report from the transcript.
- You review it, add your analysis, then seal the final version: SHA-256 fingerprint, timestamp, verification QR code.
- It does not carry out the suitability assessment for you: it records the evidence.
- It does not guarantee the report complies: have the template validated by compliance.
- It is not a regulatory call recorder: Meetingize call recording is not a regulatory communications recording system.
Frequently asked questions
Are sustainability preferences required in the report?
Yes, since 2 August 2022, when Delegated Regulation (EU) 2021/1253 added sustainability preferences to the suitability assessment.
Does Meetingize generate the suitability report automatically?
Meetingize generates a structured draft from the meeting transcript with the wealth manager persona. The adviser reviews, completes and approves it before sealing.
